Anthony Burgess
A CLOCKWORK ORANGE
a terry costa production
Anthony Burgess' stage play of his infamous cult novel and the film of the same name, "A Clockwork Orange" is the story of Alex and his teenage gang, "The Droogs", their life of rape and murder, and "ultraviolence", and the moral dilemma that arises when Alex is brainwashed into good-citizenship. The novella was made into a film classic by Stanley Kubrick in 1971, though not approved or accepted by Burgess’ himself. Burgess first published the play in 1987 which was dramatized by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1990 and received Canadian premiere under the direction of Terry Costa in 2001. Now, seven years later, Costa revisits the work in a new setting, with a new cast, in the city of Vancouver.
